Give the equipment position, motor maker and motor number, followed by the original brush and grade references. Include the holder drawing and electrical connection. A rolling mill, kiln or blower may use a different motor design from another unit in the same plant.
Do not select a grade on hardness alone. Review the original specification together with the actual load, duty, contact surface and environment. Changing material without that review can introduce a different problem rather than resolve the cause of rapid wear.
Describe conditions at the brush and motor, not only the process temperature or the plant location. Include the enclosure, ventilation and any dust or moisture exposure recorded by maintenance. State the original grade so any proposed replacement can be reviewed against that application.
